The first Ghostbusters premiered in June of 1984. The supernatural comedy follows a group of scientists, some being professors from Columbia University, who go hunting for the paranormal spooks. Following their first ghost catch, Slimer, in the New York Public Library, Columbia University’s dean dismissed the scientists and even fired them. After that, the group went on to find space for their business and hunt down even more ghosts. They eventually encounter their first demons, Zuul and Vinz, who take over neighbors Dana and Louis.

After a struggle, which included the demons summoning a gigantic Stay Puft Marshmallow Man, the team was able to banish Zuul and Vinz as well as save Dana and Louis.

The cult classic grew to be so popular that a cartoon series premiered in 1986. The spooky film’s sequel premiered, Ghostbusters II, premiered in 1989. Decades later, the disappointing 2015 Ghostbusters: Answer the Call caused criticism and outrage among the franchise’s fans due to the original team not being a part of the film. Thankfully, the franchise came back in 2021 with Ghostbusters: Afterlife featuring the original cast, with the exception of Harold Ramis, who died in 2014. Another film is currently in the works.

Here are the following locations for Ghostbusters fans to visit.

1. The New York Public Library

Where it all began – the first film’s story took place at the New York Public Library where a librarian met face-to-face with some terrifying ghosts and ghouls. The Ghostbusters came and took care of business as they hunted down and took care of Slimer.

2. Columbia University

Prior to their official dismissal by the dean, the Ghostbusters crew, Peter Venkman, Ray Stantz, and Egon Spengler were professors of parapsychology. After telling everyone about catching Slimer, the dean fired all three. Winston Zeddemore joined the team after the trio found a new New York City location for their research.

3. Hook and Ladder 8, the Most Iconic ‘Ghostbusters’ Filming Location

Full of Ghostbusters memorabilia, the fire station is everything and more to the die-hard franchise fans. Visitors are welcome to walk in and browse the entire station. It was noted by RoadTrippers that the interior scenes of the firehouse were actually filmed in Los Angeles. However, the exterior shots were done in New York City.

4. 55 Central Park West

Home of Dana (Sigourney Weaver) and Louis (Rick Moranis), the iconic 19-story residential building is located on the Upper West Side of New York City. It is also listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
